We finally did it! We went on our first family
camping trip, I'm talking all out camping in tents and everything.
Okay, we had flushing toilets and running water so we
weren't totally roughing it, but it's as close as I'm
willing to come.
Gabe's brother was visiting from Missouri
the last week of June so the whole Lucero clan decided
we needed to take a trip up to Grand Teton National Park.
We stayed at Colter Bay Campground (we stayed there
a few years ago as seen here) and if you're like
me and prefer not to wipe with a leaf you should check it out.
Miles absolutely loved it. That boy was born to camp!
He did so great; he slept great, he ate great, he played hard,
and only had one tantrum.
DAY 1 (6/28): Canoeing, Kayaking, & Water Fun
The first day we left Logan around
9:00 in the morning and after a quick lunch/stretch break at a
playground in Afton, WY we arrived at String Lake around 2:00pm.
Miles wasted no time getting in the water and was fearless
when it came to going for a canoe ride with Grandpa Lucero and Uncle Luke.
It was such a beautiful day and the views were breathtaking.
Like I said, Miles loved playing in the water and going
for boat rides. I on the other hand am major paranoid when it comes
to babies and water so I was on the beach ready to
dive in and save him if need be.
Needless to say he was fine and couldn't have had more fun.
DAY 2 (6/29): Hiking, Kayaking, & Animal Sighting
On our second day we woke up early (it's a major drawback to camping)
and then after a little last minute decision making everyone
decided that we would go for a quick hike to Hidden Falls
above Jenny Lake
Here's an adorable picture of Miles on the quick car ride
over to the lake. He was digg'n those sun glasses. Too cute!
Miles definitely had it easy. Thanks for the ride Daddy!
Our cute nephew Zach
Our other cute nephew Levi (oh, and Luke)
Due to all the runoff this year the falls were AMAZING.
After lunch and a nap Gabe and Luke decided that they wanted to go
back out in the kayaks so we went to Jackson Lake.
It was kinda windy and gray, but I don't think they minded.
Every time one of the kayaks would come in Miles was right there
ready to claim an ore to play with.
We took a couple family pictures, but due to wind and uncooperative
toddlers this was the best one that we got...it'll do.
Once again finding alternative uses for the ores.
Miles and Daddy go'n for a ride.
This is my absolute favorite picture from the whole trip.
Miles seriously loved being out on the water and teaching Gabe how to
steer a kayak :).
After roasting weinies and marshmallows (which I regret not getting pictures of)
we went for a drive through the park. Our main objective was to
get Miles to bed before 10:00 (since it stayed light out so dang late), but
spotting some wild life was a close second.
We didn't see a lot, but I thought this was a pretty picture.
DAY 3 (6/30): The Drive Home
After taking down the tent, clearing our campsite of all our crap,
unpacking and re-packing the car so everything would fit
we hit the road and headed to downtown Jackson.
We spent a few hours walking around and window shopping.
We stopped by a small toy store and got ripped off royally,
but Miles was being such a good boy that we thought
he deserved a prize.
Two hours later we were exhausted and starving.
So we made our way to Mountain High Pizza Pie,
a small pizza joint highly recommended by Gabe's brother.
It was YUMMY. If you ever find yourself in Jackson I
recommend you stop in for a slice.
Once we were thoroughly stuffed and Miles was ready
for a nap we hit the road for the long haul home.
Before we left the park we stopped to take a few pictures.
It really is stunning.
Miles was glad to get out and stretch, but he wasn't very
cooperative when it came to picture taking. Luckily I'm very sneaky,
I did a quick 180 and Gabe caught this super funny "cheese" face.
It was a fun, much needed trip. Big thanks to the Lucero's
for a great few days!
